Oh Karl

Karl Lagerfeld has done it again. Chanel's new resort collection for '11 consisted of maxi crocheted dresses, trouser suits, denim-on-denim outfits, and eeny weeny bikinis. What I always enjoy about Lagerfeld's shows (besides the clothes which is a given) is the ambiance. He transports the viewer to a destination far far away, with the sights and sounds of the show. Lagerfeld's go-to models such as Abby Lee, Natasha Poly, and Anja Rubrik graced, in this case, the road! Their entrance was not of the traditional backstage setting, but speedboats. Check out the shortened version of the show here.

Besides the new collection, Lagerfeld is been busy at work releasing his short film Remember Now. The film centers around the young, rich, and beautiful of Saint-Tropez. The gorgeous cast includes Elisa Sednaoui,Baptiste Giabiconi, and Heidi Mount all dressed head-to-toe in Chanel. Here were my favorite outfits from the film.

French actor, Pascal Greggory stars as the main character, and one can not help but think that his character is representative of Lagerfeld himself. Towards the end of the film, Lagerfeld actually makes an appearance. However representative or not, Lagerfeld is able to create an ambiance much like the one in his recent resort collection. One might think that the film is a random assortment of scenes, however the film, like all of the Lagerfeld's collections, seem to have a subliminal message that the designer sets in everything he does through sound, setting, and most importantly clothes.

Below is the trailer but if you want to see the whole film on youtube click: Part 1, Part 2.

Sorry about the weird alignment of the video. I'm working on it!

A Touch of Color

It seems Hong Kong never has seasons. Its humid, 75% of the time, or cold 25% of the other. Although seasons don't seem to change much, clothes do. This summer its all about a hint of color. I will admit I rarely ever where color (my closet is a mesh of greys, blacks, and beiges) however I just might come around to the prospect. In the spirit of all things summer I looked back at the RTW S/S '10 collections, it appears designers such Bottega Veneta and Jill Stuart have adapted for just that hint of color. For all you non-color-wearers out there, this might be a helpful transition to a brighter wardrobe.
Bottega Veneta S/S '10 RTW
I loved Bottege Veneta's S/S collection. The clothes were simple yet daring with the bright array of colors here and there. It seems its really all in the accessories- I'm loving the bag and scarf.
Jill Stuart S/S '10 RTW
Proenza Schouler S/S '10 RTW
This Proneza Schouler collection was especially colorful, with its neon dresses and colorful prints (the prints looked quite like Alexander McQueen's S/S '10 collection) but there were a few looks here and there that did retain that little burst of color, no matter how subtle.

The Met Gala 2010: The American Woman

There is something majestic about the red carpet. Whether its the celebrities or clothes, the combination of the two work hand in hand to create an ambiance full of glamour. The 2010 Met Gala was representative of just that. The dresses that graced the red carpet was pure eye candy. Here are some of my favorite picks from the fashionable night.

Jennifer Lopez, in a Zuhair Murad, looks absolutely fabulous. Similarity, Anna Hathaway adopts for a Valentino ball gown. Both of them look amazing.

Emma Watson always looks ravishing, dressing in perfection from head-to-toe. She really has the red carpet look down. This Burberry dress is flattering in all the right places. The one shoulder dress adds sophistication to the look, while the frills and high slit keeps the dress young and fresh.

Blake Lively looks stunning. The Marchesa draped chiffon strapless dress with paisley detail is gorgeous. My only criticism is the length. It wouldn't hurt to add an extra inch or two to the hem. That being said, the girl has killer legs.

With all the buzz on the celebrities and the who-wearing-whos of the red carpet, the actual benefit seems to pale in comparison to the gliz and glamour of the event. The Costume Institute Gala Benefit celebrates the opening of the "American Woman: Fashioning a National Identify" exhibition. The exhibition highlights the modern American woman from the 1890s to 1940s, exploring how they have effected the American woman today.

Check out the video below to see the full exhibition:

A long post, but this is too funny...I found this image here. Looks like Anna is getting her grove on with P. Diddy.

What do you think of the exhibition? Who was your best dressed of the evening?
